Marcela C. Otero
Marcela Otero is a Doctoral Candidate in Clinical Psychology under Dr. Robert Levenson at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research examines how neurodegenerative diseases differentially impact socioemotional processes, and the role patient emotional functioning plays on caregiver mental health. Under the mentorship of Dr. Barbara Fredrickson at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Marcela’s research has expanded to examine how behaviorally defined moments of love between spouses impact long-term marital outcomes in healthy older adults. Originally from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Marcela completed her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Cornell University, and was awarded the NIH Post-baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award from the National Institute of Mental Health. She is a member of the Society for Affective Science, Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology, and is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. She is currently completing a clinical internship at the Veteran Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Division.
