Professor Patricia Hewlin will discuss the consequences of value alignment and misalignment, and the ways that leaders can help organizational members to be their authentic selves. She will draw upon her research that addresses the degree to which members suppress personal values and pretend to embrace those of the organization, a behavior she has termed as “creating facades of conformity”. Professor Hewlin will discuss how leaders can foster environments for work engagement, belongingness and personal well-being overall by making specific efforts that forestall facades of conformity and promote authenticity in the workplace.
