Laura Weiss

Laura Weiss is a positive psychology researcher. She has obtained two masters in psychology (cum laude) and specialized in positive psychology during her PhD study at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Her area of expertise is how to improve well-being in vulnerable groups. During her PhD project, she examined the effects of the Happiness Route, a positive psychology intervention directed to lonely people with health problems and a low socio-economic status. For this project, she implemented and supervised the project in seven municipalities throughout the Netherlands. Laura coordinated a master’s course in Positive Psychology and Technology, supervised several master students and tutored many groups. She was part of the team that organized the first international summer school festival at the University of Twente, CuriousU, and was track leader for the track ‘A boost for health and happiness’. She also organized a two day conference on positive psychology, visited by more than 500 people. She trained more than 100 professionals from the health-care sector in the happiness-based approach and gave several (invited) talks, keynotes and workshops both during scientific conferences and for the general public on the topic of positive psychology. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Optentia in South Africa, where she develops an intervention to improve the well-being of postgraduate students. She also did global consulting work for the Psychai Talent Group, focused on talent development. Currently, she works as a postdoc at the VU Amsterdam.
