Vivian Wai-ming Mak
Dr. Vivian MAK Wai-ming is a registered clinical psychologist working in the Hong Kong Correctional Services who obtained her Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of Hong Kong. She has more than 20 years of experience working with offenders. In 2008, she started to serve as the convener of Women Offender Working Group and was dedicated to develop gender-specific risk and need programme for women offenders. She took the initiative to set up Psychological Gymnasium (PSY GYM) in 2011, a new personal growth and emotion treatment centre for women offenders. She initiated to integrate Positive Psychological Intervention with traditional psychological approaches in this centre. This new intervention model has gained wide media attention in recent years. The Women’s Commission has presented a Gender Mainstreaming Award to CSD on 8 Mar 2013 to positively recognize the high gender sensitivity of PSY GYM. This Programme also won the Meritorious Award and Special Citation for Responsiveness to Customer Needs in the Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2015. Dr. Mak received the commendations from the Hong Kong Correctional Services in 2005, 2011 and 2018 respectively. Besides, she has been acting as the honorary clinical supervisor for the clinical psychology programme in both University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong for years.
