Diane Price Banks
Diane P. Banks is an Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences at Bronx Community College, where she also serves as Program Director for the Medical Laboratory Technician Program. In 2019, she anticipates to complete her Ph. D. in Urban Education for Math, Science and Technology at the City University of New York. Her research specializes in Microbiology with a focus in soil and water microbiome; Epidemiology with a focus in STI’s; STEM education with a focus on faculty preparation and learned helplessness; and Science History Education with a focus on rediscovering the contributions of African Americans in science education. Her book, The business of education: Networks of powers and wealth in America, was published by Taylor and Francis in 2017. Furthermore, her work has been published in Theory, Research, and Action in Urban Education. Mrs. Banks’ awards and honors include a 2017-2018 Science Teaching Fellowship with the American Society for Microbiology and National Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology in 2015. Her research has been funded by grants from the CUNY Research Scholars Program and BCC’s Student Government.
