Perth College’s self-leadership programme, InsideOut, utilises the latest positive psychology science, to equip future female leaders with simple, tested strategies for use in supporting them to flourish.
Research suggests that parental education and support is crucial to the success of Positive Psychology interventions, and that parental collaboration plays an essential role in school success and student achievement.
Perth College adopted an appreciative inquiry approach with our parents to enhance parental engagement. The aim was to support and further engage families, but also to build a social network encouraging open communication within the school community. We invited parents to be active in strengthening Perth College as an institution, whilst being emotionally involved in their child’s development and learning. In this workshop we will share how this programme evolved, the successful outcomes achieved through this approach, and how we evaluated the engagement levels of parents by conducting relational interviews on topics pertaining to their experiences within and perceptions of being in this group. We will also share the ongoing vision of this group.
