Schools are ideally placed to raise awareness and promote well-being for young people. This panel symposium will feature a series of five presentations, each focusing on a different aspect of a collaborative evaluation study conducted across 19 government schools in the United Arab Emirates. Ten school leaders and staff from each of the 10 Positive Education schools were provided with the opportunity to receive teacher training from Geelong Grammar School. Two hundred and fifty-nine school leaders, staff and students from all participating schools were included in one of 48 focus groups. The first presentation will provide an overview of the teacher training conducted by GGS. The second presentation will focus on the education and cultural contexts of introducing school-based well-being programs to the UAE. The third presentation will introduce the independently evaluated yet collaborative research project and methods. This will be followed by findings from the focus groups in the fourth presentation whilst the final presentation will highlight learnings, challenges and address broad implications of the research findings. Collectively, the papers in this symposium highlight the importance of understanding and considering the influence of cultural, contextual, systems, and policy factors when implementing school-based well-being programs.
