This interactive workshop, incorporating easy to follow rhythmic, group movement will help you redefine and prioritize aging: your own, your parents, children, family and friends. Extraordinary aging will be explored as the generative ability to experience better health, positive determination, physical fitness, cognitive reserve, social capital, purpose in life, and meaning at the end of the day. Strategies and tools for creating positive emotion and meaning in motion will be presented, along with a recipe for cooking up emotional vibrancy: zesty, juicy living. In older adulthood, we can experience powerful sacred moments and deep connections, despite struggles, losses, and inevitable changes. Applying positive psychology and (appreciative) group dance/fitness helps lower the risk of non-communicable diseases, and boosts the healthspan, not just the life span. This workshop will explore ways to put more life in your years (Fowler, 1999), embrace micro-moments (Fredrickson, 2013), boost learning (Ratey, 2013) and create a powerful legacy of love (O'Brien, 2015). PERMAsize, based on Seligman's (2012) theory of well-being will be presented with respect to advancing the theory, research and practice of extraordinary aging: active, inspired, vibrant living. Experience more positive, meaningful movement at home, work, school, and at play with takeaways from this session.
