The purpose of the present study was to develop the Self-Encourage and Compassion Skills Scale (SESCS) and to examine its reliability and validity using a classical test theory, an item response theory and a correlation analysis. The SESCS (Total 12 items) has 4 subscales; Encourage Skills (3 items), Compassion Skills (3 items), Acceptance (3 items), Freedom from Self-criticism (3 items). The SESCS was developed using examples from Self-Encourage and Compassion based on Mindfulness theories, Individual Psychology and Positive Psychology. In the study (N=893, Mean age= 33, SD=12.3), participants’ data was subjected to the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and correlation analysis. It showed 4 factors, indicating that the composite model fit the data well (TLI =.98, RMSEA=.055, BIC = -74.3). The study found sufficient concurrent validity between the SESCS and the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) (Smith et al, 2008).
