This workshop aims to explore, understand, unpack and discuss using strengths based literature in school improvement. It is emerging there has been a shift away from a predominant focus on deficits in schools to a strengths based focus in school improvement agendas. While the focus on strengths and empowerment has gained considerable prominence in 'classroom practice' in recent times there is increasing research in the area of Strengths-Based Leadership Theory or Strengths-Based Organisational Management. This method of maximising the success of schools by a relentless focus on its strengths is gaining results. Saraid will share how as a new Principal in an inner-city Primary school with a diverse socio-economic community she led parents through a series of workshops (referencing Dr Lea Water's The Strength Switch) to swiftly build a positive culture with impressive results.
