The purpose element of the meaning in life construct has been subject to a body of research that operationalized valued higher hierarchy life goals as sources of meaning (Schnell, 2016). Among other things, our research aims to reveal connections between these sources of meaning and achievement motivation. We hypothesize that achievement motivation is especially connected to self-actualization and horizontal self-transcendence sources of meaning dimensions.

The data for this study is quantitative. Thus, we are utilizing the SoMe by Schnell (2007) to conduct the sources of meaning and the AMI by Schuler & Prochaska (2001) to conduct achievement motivation. We are conducting a cross-sectional data sample from social media until the end of January 2019 that we aim to be at least 200 participants strong.

The data will be analyzed with structural equation model statistics in the R environment using the lavaan package. The results are meant to provide the grounds for experiments on how to facilitate achievement motivation by considering sources of meaning for specific tasks.
