Traditional measurement and evaluation approaches typically focus on outcomes (e.g., happiness, depression), and less on capturing and understanding the impact of competencies (e.g., emotion regulation). A considered and integrated approach to evaluating well-being outcomes of school-based or community-led programs for young people, needs to encompass both competencies and desired program outcomes. Across several community projects, emotion regulation has been identified as a key predictor of well-being outcomes, enabling our industry partners to strategically focus their resources. This talk will present data trends from several community projects to demonstrate the importance of capturing emotional competencies, alongside outcomes such as resilience and well-being.
