Dr. Tom Hendriks is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Suriname. He obtained his PhD degree in social sciences at the University of Amsterdam in 2018. He focuses on cross- and intercultural application of positive psychological interventions. He introduced positive psychology in Suriname in 2011, and has developed the bachelor program 'Introduction to positive psychology' and the master program 'Positive mental health', which he teaches at the University of Suriname.
In addition, Tom is coordinator for the research line "Resilience and mental well-being" that focuses on the practical applications of positive interventions among non-Western populations. This includes cross-cultural investigations into the promotion of student well-being and the fostering of resilience among refugees and immigrants.
