Professor Mario Alvarez-Jimenez is Director of eOrygen at Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health, and the Centre for Youth Mental Health, The University of Melbourne. eOrygen is a world-leading clinical research program focused on harnessing digital technologies and new psychological models to tackle the major limitations of current youth mental health services. Mario’s team has developed treatment platforms that combine online social media, interactive evidence-based psychological interventions, and multidisciplinary expert and peer moderation to address major challenges in youth mental health treatment, such as bringing about long-term recovery, through entirely novel combinations of multi-disciplinary expertise. The eOrygen team includes 56 researchers and professionals and 7 PhD students merging 14 disciplines across 18 concurrent research projects. Since 2010, Mario has attracted 29 competitive grants (13 as principal investigator), totaling $20M in competitive research funding (16 grants and $8.3M as principal investigator). In 2014, Mario obtained a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) career development fellowship and was awarded the 2014 Society for Mental Health Research (SMHR) Rising Star Award. In 2015, he was awarded the Research Excellence Award by the National Health and Medical Research Council being Top-Ranked in the Career Development Fellowship-Clinical scheme Australia-wide.
