Business, education and community organisations have an opportunity to shift their focus away from traditional deficit-based management towards strengths-based management.

As part of my PhD study, I am examining whether the introduction of a classification structure for cultural strengths may assist to enhance focus around what is 'right' about an organisation. Subsequently, I will also examine whether this understanding and/or use of cultural strengths may lead to improved organisational performance and member well-being.

Specifically, a new measure of cultural strengths: Organisational Cultural Strengths Assessment (OCSA) will be developed and psychometrically tested.  Relationships between organisational cultural strengths, performance and well-being be explored.

The findings will seek to extend benefits of individual strengths focus out to the macro organisational environment, with consideration that the strengths of an organisation's culture may be uniquely differentiated from the aggregate of individual strengths within the organisation.  My findings may also help to lay foundations for future research, such as further understanding of the patterns of cultural strengths, the development and testing of a range of interventions for application, as well as exploring connections back to individual strengths.
